Within HIFIS, there are several export fields designed to capture and manage critical data that the federal government uses for research, informed decision-making, policy formulation, and effective service delivery to Canadian communities. These standardized fields collect anonymized data on people experiencing homelessness, including demographics, housing status, service use, and more. As part of the Data Provision Agreement (DPA), these fields must be exported to Infrastructure Canada on a quarterly basis. This comprehensive resource focuses on the export fields outlined in the DPA and their definitions.

This document has been developed by Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada (HICC) to remove ambiguity and provide transparency to HIFIS leads and HIFIS administrators about the fields sent to HICC. It lists and defines all the fields that are exported to HICC from communities’ HIFIS instances.
